Street Name

What about a street in mid-levels, sandwiched between Mosque Street and Caine Road called
' Rednaxela Terrace' which is ' Alexander' in reverse ....
The story goes that when a Chinese contractor was asked by an English engineer to make a name plate for the street, he arranged the letters from right to left, which is the traditional Chinese way, thus producing this weird and wonderful name of ' Rednaxela "... a name that is still recognized on official maps.

Road Name

There is a road built many years ago by the British Army called Route Twisk, not a word in the English Dictionary. This road was initially shown on army maps as Route TW/SK as it linked a town called Tsuen Wan with Shek Kong, a small village in the New Territories where the old army barracks were located. Over the years, the drawing office in Government slowly reduced the length of the slash '/' until one day it took the form of the letter i.  Also the road twisted and turned quite a bit due to the steep hilly slopes ... so the Chinese draughtsman thought that the  word 'twisk' was close enough to 'twist'. The name is now fully accepted by the local community, although the Chinese name is still Tsuen Kam Road.
